Nature is in Danger. An estimated 1 million species of plants and animals are on the verge of extinction due to humanity's impact - global temperatures are rising, natural habitats and wild spaces are being destroyed, animals are being slaughtered indiscriminately for meat or clothes, and air, land, and water are being polluted by plastic and other chemicals. 

The many millions of plant and animal species on earth are a result of billions of years of survival and evolution. Their loss is irreversible - once gone they will never come back.

The window to safeguard biodiversity and the health of our planet is closing. Yet it's not too late. Flaming Koala is committed to protecting wildlife and wild spaces. And this is how we plan to do it -

1. Sustainable Clothing

At Flaming Koala, we only work with materials that are kind to the planet. Our clothing is made from 100% Organic Cotton that is sustainably sourced and produced in India. Unlike conventional cotton, Organic Cotton does not use large amounts of chemical pesticides and fertilisers; preserving soil health and quality, and also uses upto 70% less water and 60% less energy than conventional cotton does.

2. Timeless Designs that Inspire Conservation.

One of the biggest contributors to the environmental impact of the fashion industry is fast fashion, which refers to the practice of rapidly producing and selling inexpensive clothing that is designed to be worn for a short period of time before being discarded and replaced by the next trend. Timeless designs, on the other hand, are classic designs that can be worn for many years without going out of style.

Moreover, our designs are inspired by nature, and collections such as '4 A Better Tomorrow' have been expertly created to be conservation-conversation starters while being simultaneously stylish and subtle.

3. Exporting a Harmonious Vision of the World

Today we're all inundated with content and information from social media and pop culture. The stories we hear shape how we view the world, what we believe in, and how we live. We at Flaming Koala believe that one of the most powerful ways to create change is to tell your story and put it out into the world. Thus, as part of our concerted effort to preserve nature and protect wildlife we produce documentaries, write blogs, and create content for social media.

Our messaging is centered around living in harmony with nature, spending more time with your people, spending more time outdoors, meditation - all the things that we believe make for a good life.

4. Building a Community

Flaming Koala is not just a clothing brand. We're a community of like-minded people who love nature and are willing to fight to protect it. We are all connected to each other on Instagram @flamingkoala, but we also organise offline events and exploratory expeditions into the wild. This community is a great way to make new friends, learn from and grow with each other, and connect over our shared passion for nature and the wild.

5. Giving Back to the Planet

At Flaming Koala we give our time and money to conservation efforts around the world. Whether it's signing online petitions, participating in beach cleanups or contributing monetarily to the cause, we love doing our bit for the planet. With every purchase you make with us, you directly support a species or habitat in need, as 50% of all profits are donated to organisations at the forefront of the fight against climate change, habitat destruction, animal abuse etc.

The way we see it, we're only paying back our debt to mother nature - because we owe everything to her, do we not?

 

What can you do to help?

Three of the most impactful things you, as individuals can do

1. Eat sustainable.

A vegan diet is the single biggest way to reduce our impact on planet earth. Meat and Dairy farming is one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas emissions, habitat loss, and biodiversity loss. Eating plant-based and locally sourced produce is good for us, for animals, and for the planet :)

2. Buy Sustainable.

The next best thing to do is to be mindful of our consumption. It's best to just buy less, and to buy products that are made sustainably when we do buy. The power of the consumer in a capitalist society cannot be overstated - we can create a seismic shift in the world just with what we choose to buy - and more importantly, not buy.

3. Use your voice.

A culture is the sum total of all the voices in a society. We can add to it just by speaking up - voting for the right candidate, talking to our friends and family, even a simple 'like' on Instagram is a way to affirm our beliefs and show support for the movement.
